A weekend in Alexandria Bay

Updated: Aug 20, 2021

Okay you caught me, so we didn't go on a weekend because my husband works in the restaurant industry.. BUT whenever we travel, we usually leave on a Monday (your Friday) and return on a Wednesday (your Sunday)! So it all evens out, lol. You could even leave for Alexandria Bay early on Saturday, depending where you live in New York, and return home late the next day!

Anyways, let's get to the details- where to STAY, where to EAT, and what to DO in Alexandria Bay, NY! ☺️💙💜❤️🏰🛣✨

WHERE TO STAY:

We booked our trip VERY last minute, and stayed at the Bonnie Castle Resort & Marina. It was the perfect location- walking distance to town and right where the marina is! Lucas woke up early in the morning and fished while the sun was rising- a highlight of his trip. Next time we go, I would love to stay the the Riveredge Resort Hotel. The view of the castle from here is stunning, especially at sunset! It has a tiki bar with cornhole set up, multiple restaurants, and plenty of adirondack chairs lined up along the dock to relax in. (see below)

WHERE TO EAT:

Windows on the Bay- a beautiful restaurant at the Riveredge Resort that is right on the water. You can choose to sit outside to eat on the dock alongside the water. We did this for breakfast and it was perfect!

The Kitchen at Captain Visger House- a farm to table restaurant at a boutique inn (another place to look into staying!) that also has outdoor seating.

Cavallario's Steak and Seafood House- a great opion for dinner, with a beautiful outdoor patio that has a full bar, and stage with live music on some nights!

WHAT TO DO:

Explore and shop downtown on James Street and the surrounding area. We walked here right from our room with the stroller, and I wish we brought our dog Fiji because it was very pet friendly! There are so many cute little shops, bars, and things to do! They even have shuffle board, life size chess, and again- cornhole set up for passerbys to use. Around the corner from James Street, popcorn lovers can visit Nav's Popcorn and right up the road from that, the Dark Island Distillery. Last but not least, and the whole reason we brought our little princess to Alexandria Bay, was to see Boldt Castle! Take the hour long guided tour on Uncle Sam's Boat Tours over to the castle and you can view the stunning mansions on the islands, and learn about the history of them! Visiting the castle itself took us a few hours, between seeing all 120 rooms, the pump house, playhouse and grounds! It was really stunning and mind blowing. There's also snack bars, with ice cream and drinks for a hot day. We also took the ferry over to see the Yacht House, another 30 minute attraction. It was definitely a fun filled couple days! 🥰

I already can't wait to return to this area, especially since it's only 3 hours from us. I'd love to go back in the fall, explore some wineries, drive to Clayton- another cute town in the 1000 islands, and maybe see Wellesely Island. Hopefully someday I'll have another blog post all about these things! Let me know if you liked this post, and if you'd like more travel guides!

The dress I wore to the castle is linked on my liketoknowit! ☺️✨
